Parental internet Control Software Reviewed
Internet Safety, Safe Eyes by AYCNP.
The Safe Eyes parental web filtering software works well in filtering out pornography, or whatever other type of sites one wishes to filter from their search engines. It works topically, that is you can choose what topics you want filtered (or none). The topical list includes nudity, pornography, hate sites, violent sites, sites on suicide that might be harmful to a child or teen, and it also allows you to filter out chat rooms and social networking sites, if you have young children.
Parental internet control software is of value and a protection. Children exposed to pornography are more likely to develop psychological disorders.
Safe Eyes is one of the best in the way of parental software designed to give balanced protection to children on the Internet.

Safe Eyes review, continued:
The list of types of sites to block is not all inclusive on Safe Eyes, that is, if you, for example, choose to filter nudity, you don't have to filter hate sites, unless you choose to. You can choose to allow social networking, and track the child's or teen's activity on it. In terms of parental software, you also have access to a 3 week history, which might be helpful, if your child's computer is not the same computer that you use. Even if you never turned on the filtering, you could still track what is being viewed by your children.
The program is Internet based, which means, it isn't based on one computer in your home, but at the central site of Internet Safety. The advantage is, that it can be used by up to three computers of your choice, anywhere they might be, one in New York, the other in Seattle, or England.
The downside, is that you are not purchasing software, per se, but a service or subscription, which means that you will have to pay each year, or every two years, for the subscription, which works out to $30 or $40 a year, if you use the coupon, depending if you purchase the service for one or two years each time.
The program isn't too touchy, but it does need tweaking in the beginning. You might hit on a site that has a "hit" word in it that trips the system, and then, you have to go into the site, and "allow" the site in question, or use the toolbar which has a simple "allow" button, which works pretty well.
We had a couple of problems with google images, and another common google site, but the technical support of Internet Safety, Safe Eyes, is 24 hours, and it was very good. All issues are resolved quickly and thoroughly, with very little wait time.
After a short time, the site is pretty much transparent, with just a little tweaking here and there. It does block pornography on YouTube, but it isn't too touchy, it might even be considered not strict enough for some parents, who might want to add their own "buzzwords" to the program for young children.
Time limits can be placed for children and teens. There are or can be an unlimited number of individual users, which means that a child will log into his own entrance, with his own set of controls, and a teen can have his own, parents another set. Parents can track all of the activity for all users for all computers (up to three) remotely, that is, on any computer that his Internet.
So, it is a good program, easy to use, with good technical support, and very few gliches. It is sincerely recommended, and the little bit of commission that this site receives from referrals is relatively insignificant at the present time, so it is recommended sincerely and we hope that it can help parents in controlling the Internet in a reasonable way. It also comes with a 14 day free trial, which one can cancel at any time before the 14 days, so it is pretty fullproof in that way also.
All in all, even though no software for parental control is 100%, it is reasonably close to being complete protection for the more serious things that parents would want to protect their family from. The incidence of children being exposed to pornography on the Internet, not to mention teens, is higher than parents would like to think, so it is a good investment.

YouTube and one Mom's dilemma:
One mom asks: "My 15 year old son recently made some questionable and disturbing "Jack Ass" style YouTube videos with his friends. They had everything from silly stunts to self-injury like stapling themselves and pouring rubbing alcohol on their hands and lighting it with a lighter to crude and obscene language and references.
My husband and I were very upset, and my husband grounded my son and took away the video camera. He is usually calm, but he lost it this time, calling my son an embarrassment, and telling him he had to draw the line on how stupid he was going to be. My son says he's just being creative and was trying to be "extreme" to get notoriety. Aside from the obvious danger issues, have we overreacted? Are we trying to hold value standards that are just too much to expect of teens these days?"
Denise's thoughts: "I think your reaction is normal, and warranted. Falling back and regrouping if name calling happened would also be warranted. But letting your son know that this video does embarrass you and holding him to that standard is not overreacting at all. You did well taking that stand with him. I would also remind him that anyone can see that video, including the college admissions officer who may check the internet when he applies.

Keep YouTube 'Clean' for Your Kids with Safe Eyes:
Leading Parental Control Software Adds Clip-by-Clip YouTube Filtering and Now Distinguishes between Family-Friendly & Objectionable Videos
The following material is a press release provided by Internet Safety Corp.
ATLANTA, October 14, 2008 - Blocking YouTube from your children's Internet surfing [is something that is accomplished selectively by the Safe Eyes program] The [YouTube]site has its share of R- and even
X-rated content that is as easy to find as typing "naked pictures" or "hot girls" in the search box, but it's also packed with
harmlessly funny and even educational videos. Now InternetSafety.com's Safe Eyes parental control software screens each YouTube video individually instead of blocking the entire site, allowing children to enjoy unobjectionable material while protecting them from over 8,000 clips about phone sex, 130,000 about girls kissing and 457,000 in the
porn category.
In this latest enhancement to its award-winning program, Safe Eyes automatically evaluates YouTube videos for inappropriate content. The system then blocks offending clips while allowing the computer to display the rest. This goes beyond YouTube's own self-policing system - which enables site users to voluntarily flag videos as unsuitable for viewers under 18 - to ensure that individual clips are screened against filters defined by Safe Eyes' pre-configured controls.
Because so many YouTube videos are shared virally through online channels other than the YouTube site itself, Safe Eyes' new intelligent YouTube filtering also evaluates videos embedded in emails, blogs, and sites like Facebook and MySpace. This feature - unique to Safe Eyes - prevents children from accidentally or deliberately viewing undesirable footage through the back door. It also makes Safe Eyes the first program to filter YouTube videos no matter where they appear on the Internet.
The new YouTube controls are included with the latest edition of Safe Eyes. Parents also have the option to block YouTube entirely if they wish.
"YouTube is the third most heavily trafficked website in the world and the fourth in the U.S., after Google, Yahoo and MySpace. Blocking the whole site is unnecessary for families because it means blocking good content along with bad, including perfectly innocent videos making the rounds among friends," said Forrest Collier, CEO of InternetSafety.com. "Safe Eyes' new ability to filter out only the offensive clips solves the problem."
"Internet filtering is a useful tool for shielding children from online material they shouldn't see, but being too restrictive can backfire. There is no reason to keep kids away from every YouTube video just because some of them are off-color or otherwise undesirable," said Aaron Kenny, CTO of InternetSafety.com. "Evaluating each video on its merits is a smarter way to handle the issue and one that will give children access to positive content ranging from footage of migrating birds to a speech from the latest political convention."
Safe Eyes enables parents to easily block objectionable websites, control Internet use by length of time as well as time of day and day of the week, block or record instant messenger chats, and block peer-to-peer file sharing programs that may expose children to dangerous material. It also allows parents to limit email use to certain addresses, and detect the posting of inappropriate or personal information on social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook.
The software provides broader controls than any other filtering product, including the ability to define which websites will be blocked by category, URL and keyword; receive instant alerts about inappropriate online behavior by email, text message or phone call; and remotely change program settings or view reports from any Internet-enabled computer.
Safe Eyes is also the only program of its kind that can be used in mixed Mac/PC households. A single $49.95 annual subscription covers up to three Mac and/or PC computers with the ability to customize settings for each child and enforce them on any machine. The product's website blacklist is updated automatically every day, eliminating the need for manual updates.
The new Safe Eyes edition with YouTube controls can be purchased at www.safeeyes.com or downloaded free of charge at the site by existing owners.
